EDD 2017 Competition Details

Theme: ECO

1. Mini Gadget Competition

  • The gadget created should be in line with the theme Eco-gadgets – Care for Our Earth.

  • Participants are required to bring their own materials such as disposable chopsticks, satay sticks, string and scissors. All adhesive materials e.g. glue, adhesive tape and blu-tack are not allowed to be used.

  • The gadget should be created on the day of the competition. No pre‐prepared/pre-cut parts or markings are allowed. All materials must be in its original state.

  • All materials are to be laid out for inspection prior to the start of the competition.

  • A write-up of about 50 words on the gadget is required for submission.

  • The final product will be judged based on the relevance to the theme, originality and creativity of design, stability of structure, neatness of knots, number of knots and lashes and the write-up.

  • Failure to comply with the guidelines will result in disqualification.

  • Time: 1 hour 30 minutes

2. Eco-Painting

  • The painting created should be in line with the theme Eco. Participants are required to bring their own materials as there will be no materials provided.

Below are the list of items to be brought along for the competition:

  • A4 size paper (watercolour/acrylic/any paper above 150gsm)

(if you are using watercolour, please do not use acrylic paper as the paint would not stay on the paper)

  • Watercolour/Acrylic paints

  • Palette

  • Brushes

  • Cup/Small bucket (to hold water for painting)

  • Drawing materials

  • Rags

  • Aprons/unused tee

  • Newspaper (to avoid dirtying the tables)

  • Draft of painting and any other printed images (as reference for final)

- Participants are allowed to plan and sketch out a draft of the painting. The process of creating the final painting should be done from scratch during the event itself.

- Finally, each team is to produce a 50 words write-up describing how the painting illustrates the given theme.

- The final product will be judged based on personal response, interpretation of theme, aesthetic qualities and technical skills.

- Time frame: 1 hour 30 minutes

3. Girls Got Talent Competition - "Aloha"

  • Each performance should not exceed more than 3 minutes.

  • The item should be in line with the theme: Aloha

  • Students can choose to dance, sing, play instruments, dramatize or a combination of any of it. No dangerous acts or stunts and revealing clothing

  • Groups will be judged on relevance to the Theme, Teamwork, Originality & Content, Confidence and Entertainment Value.​

  • Own CD with song must be brought for the competition. It must be clearly labelled with school name, track title and number.​

  • Request for extra power points, mics and etc must be included in the application form. (Subject to availability.)

4. Snack-making - ECO

  • Each Coy/Pack should prepare and present healthy snack that is in line with the theme: ECO.

  • The maximum budget for the dish is $10. (Note that cost will be borne by your school.)

  • All ingredients should be brought by the competing schools in unprepared state, not trimmed, cut or sliced. Any equipment or utensils needed must be brought by the competing schools. Electrical supply will not be provided.

  • Competing schools have to submit a write-up to explain the relevance of the dish to the theme. The write-up should also include a breakdown of the budget, receipt(s) attached.

  • Safety rules and food handling procedures have to be followed. Hand gloves and aprons are compulsory during the food preparation process. Gloves and apron will not be provided.

Judging Criterion

1. Product Presentation

Participants should be creative in their overall presentation. Plating should contain excellent colour and be well organised.

2. Safety Rules

Participants should follow safety rules and food handling procedures. Hand gloves and apron have to be worn at all times.

3. Cleanliness of work station

Participants should ensure that working area is clean and tidy.

4. Final Product

Participants should ensure correct preparation of food products resulting in good flavour profiles, texture and consistency.

5. Write Up

Write-up should clearly explain the relevance of the food presented to the theme. Receipt(s) to be attached.

- Time Frame: 1 hour 30 minutes.

5. Sports - Telematch

  • The telematch consists of heats, semi-finals and finals. The fastest teams will advance to the semi-finals and finals.

  • Participants should be properly attired in their PE/CCA shirt and PE shorts. They should also wear either school shoes or sport shoes.

  • Participants should bring a water bottle to stay hydrated.

  • Participants should display good sportsmanship and obey the instructions of the referees. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

  • Time frame: 1 hour 30 minutes for the whole event (including heats, semi-finals and finals)
