Every eventful year starts with Training Camp and concludes with Annual camp. AHSGG takes pride in running camps that ensures our guides develop further, bond and learn during every camp.
Training Camp
March Holidays
This is the very first camp that every Sec 1s will attend as a girl guide and it is also the very first camp that Sec 3 Guides will run. Sec 1s will experience many new things such as outdoor cooking, drills etc. and it will also be the first time the Sec 1s get to bond as a batch. This is truly a very special experience for both the Sec 1s and 3s.
As for the Sec 4s, it will be the last camp they would run and the camp would be run for the Sec 2s. The purpose of the camp for the Sec 2s is to brush up the skills they need to guide their Sec 1s well.
Overall, the camp is a test of grit and courage - for the new Sec 1s to step out of their comfort zone and for the Sec 2s to step up and guide their juniors.
Annual Camp
End of Year
To end of the year with a bang, there will be an overnight camp at the end of the year. The camp mainly focuses on applying the skills Guides have learnt throughout the year such as their outdoor cooking skills to cook their meals and their gadget tying skills to tie the appropriate structures like shoe racks to place their shoes.
This period of time really bonds the company as a whole, with more bonding games and nature hikes. It is tradition for annual camp to be held at the Girl Guides Campsite in Singapore, Camp Christine, where Guides are truly exposed to what it is like to camp in the great outdoors.
There will be an annual hike which is one of the biggest challenges during camp, but with the all for one and one for all UG spirit, it is easily achieved.
Camping at Camp Christine
In 2019, our guides were given the opportunity to have a 3 day 2 night camp at our Guides campsite, Camp Christine. Camping at a campsite has a different experience as compared to camping in school. Our campers pitched tents under the hot sun and battled the vicious insects but nonetheless, they definitely had lots of fun during this Annual Camp. This is an golden opportunity to put their skills to the test, and they are given the chance to put everything they have learnt throughout the year to good use.
Campfire
A camp wouldn't be a camp without a campfire! This special event that happens at the end of the day bands the entire company together regardless junior or senior. Guides bond over skits done by the Guides themselves, campfire songs and laughter.
The campfire then ends the day on a sad note with Canadian Vesper.
Campfires are indeed a very special experience!
Annual Hike
To put our guides' resilience to the test, every year during annual camp, we put aside time for annual hike.
During our hikes, we plan many fun-filled station games. Station games are also known as Wide Games and it is a method used by Girl Guides around the world to educate the girls on certain things in a more interesting way.
Despite this activity being grueling, our guides get to interact and bond with their patrol mates.
